31202Bucket List Bonanza: Destinations to Visit Before You Die – Part 2

No Comments 2 Min Read

Destination bucket lists can often be long and difficult to narrow down, but not to worry! Let me tell you about five holiday options for anybody seeking a unique travel experience.

Iceland

Have you ever thought about descending below the Earth’s surface – into a volcano? At the Thrihnukagigur volcano in Iceland, you can do exactly that! Delve 120m down into a cavern drained of its magma, revealing geologic formations coloured in blues, reds, purples and many other colours. The volcano is dormant, having last erupted 4,000 years ago, but that doesn’t make this experience any less exciting!

St. Helena

There are few places on the planet as remote as St. Helena in the South Atlantic. It is a beautiful, untouched island filled with marvellous geologic formations, and it is teeming with wildlife, too! Its waters host pods of dolphins and whales, and in its skies you’ll find many different types of birds. For a long while, the only way to reach this unique destination was by the last Royal Mail ship, but the island and its 4,000 inhabitants, who mostly live in Georgian-era settlements, now boast an airport.

Tanera Beag

Who doesn’t fancy their own private island? While owning one is out of the question for most of us, a visit to uninhabited Tanera Beag, the second largest of Scotland’s Summer Isles, is a great alternative that won’t cost you a thing. To reach the island, kayak from the mainland through Badentarbet Bay. Then simply pitch a tent! You may have to share the island with some seals and sheep, but you’re sure to be one of the only people around. Check out the island’s 83m high point for unparalleled views of the surrounding area.

Mt. Kilimanjaro

Perhaps the world’s greatest trekking adventure, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is a mainstay on any serious bucket list. While a challenge, reaching the summit is achievable at 5,895m – just be sure to do some training beforehand! Experts predict that Kilimanjaro will lose its iconic snows as early as 2022, which makes a visit this year all the more imperative.

Havana

Cuba is an intoxicating holiday destination, thanks to its classic cars, colourful architecture and unique culture. Visiting Havana this year is a must: as relations continue to normalise between Cuba and the United States, the island’s charm will bring huge numbers of American tourists. That may facilitate a change in the landscape, and it’d be ideal to take in the city’s grandeur while you can.
