Activities for Cold Winter Weekends

2 Min Read

If you live in a part of the country that is lucky enough to experience winter as a cold and snowy season, you are probably all too familiar with conditions that make it far more appealing to stay in the home rather than venture out. After all, not everyone is cut out for snowshoeing, skiing, and ice skating. Even if you do appreciate the winter sports, at some point it can even get too cold to partake in them. If you are looking for a few suggestions about what to do when it gets too cold to go out, then here are five ideas for activities for cold winter weekends:

Games Tournament – This is the perfect opportunity to get out those old board games and partake in some friendly competition. Make it a tournament. Take a mixture of board games and video games and limit the duration of each event with a timer. If you are going to be locked in for the whole weekend, make it a two day contest. The best part about this activity is that with a lot of the newer video games, you really need to move your body in order to do well. Indoor exercise is always a good thing when you cannot get outside.

Have a Beach Day – It is in the dead of winter that you miss summer the most. Why not recreate it in your own home? Have everyone put on their bathing suits, blast some summer tunes, and make fruity iced drinks in the blender. If you can’t fly out to a beach, this is the next best thing. Take some funny pictures, and send them out to friends if you are brave.

Discover a Hobby – Since you can’t go anywhere, this is a perfect opportunity to discover what you enjoy doing. There are hundreds of hobbies out there, and one is perfect for you: brewing beer, knitting, building model cars or baking some new kinds of cookies. Whatever it is that you have been considering, go ahead and give it a try.

Organize – Ok, this one isn’t as much fun as the others. However, it has to get done sometime, and doing it during a time that you can’t go anywhere else is ideal. Give yourself a break after reaching a milestone. If you finish cleaning a closet, then go ahead and let everyone take short dance breaks or get back to those video games for a bit.

With a little bit of creativity and a good attitude, being house bound during a winter weekend can be fun and worthwhile.
