Stackable 8-Relay Card for Raspberry Pi, Targeting Home Automation Projects Now Launched On Kickstarter

CUPERTINO, CA (June 09, 2018) – The present card is a spin-off of a previous design, the Mega-IO Expansion Card. Considering the active feedback from customers, some of the less used features or the Mega-IO card were eliminated in order to reduce cost, and the present project of stackable 8-Relay Card for Raspberry Pi 2/3/Zero has been successfully launched.
Unlike the Mega-IO card, which is stackable to four layers, the 8-Relay card can be stacked to eight layers, permitting centralized control of up to 64 relays from a browser interface. The 8-Relay card is using only two of the GPIO lines of Raspberry Pi. All the other IO’s are passed-through the mating connector and can be used for other functions.
Command line drivers can set and read the relays directly, or can be used to build high level interfaces. CODESYS, Python and JavaScript examples are also provided.

A web based, smart, expandable, 8 to 64 zone sprinkler controller application can be downloaded from the company’s website and can be implemented for just $3 to $5 per zone. The controller can be deployed for new irrigation projects or as a replacement upgrade to existing installations.

The Parts List consists of readily available components, and links for procurement are provided. The software installation is reduced to simply burning an SD Card image and powering up the system. Every station can be named according to the designated lawn area. Weekly watering schedule can be easily adjusted from the browser.

Manual Rain Delay can be set from one to seven days. A feature which is present only in much more expensive controllers is the Auto Rain Delay. After defining the location in the setup screen, the user can select the level of precipitations at which the watering will shut off. The software running on Raspberry Pi is using the free API provided by to read the daily forecast and adjust the watering schedule accordingly, creating a hassle-free irrigation controller.
