There are a lot of people who look at phone deals that offer them the largest number of free text messages. These deals are generally easy to find, but you have to consider the number of free text messages you are actually getting over the course of the contract- not just the introductory offers. You also have to consider which phone you are going to get with these deals. Two phones that you should consider are the BlackBerry Z10 and the Samsung S3.
Getting a Deal with Free Text Messages
There are two ways that you can get deals with free text messages. The first is through a pay monthly contract which comes with a phone and the second is though a sim only contract. When you use the first option you will have to pay a higher premium because of the phone you will also be getting. However, with a sim only deal you pay less because you are only paying for the network features.
If you are looking at the BlackBerry Z10 and the Samsung S3 then you have to consider whether you want to get them on contract or buy them outright. The contract costs for these two phones are similar because of their age. However, if you are going to buy the phone outright you need to have the full amount on hand and you may find that one phone is more expensive than the other. This cost will depend on where you are looking.
The Design of the Phone
The screens on these phones are different sizes with the S3 being larger. This is why the small size difference in the body is a surprise. The S3 is thinner and lighter than the Z10 which is also quite surprising considering the slightly bigger size. The S3 also offers the iconic Samsung body design which offers a more natural feel and fit in the hand. The Z10 is straighter and offers more severe lines.
Both of the phones are made from a similar material, but the S3 does offer a better and sleeker feel. The ease with which you can hold the phone also makes the S3 the better phone.
The Screen and Display
When you look at smartphone screens you will see that all the manufacturers are pulling out all the stops. However, the Z10 does not seem to be keeping up with the crowd. The Z10 offers a 4.2 inch screen with a 768 x 1280 LCD display with a pixel density of 356ppi. However, the S3 comes with a 4.8 inch screen offering a 720 x 1280 Super AMOLED display with high pixel density.
When you look at the screens you can see the difference in the display right away. The S3 offers vibrant and saturated colours which are not offered by the Z10. One point in the Z10s favour is that it offers a brighter screen which makes it easier to view outdoors.
The Interface and the Functionality
The operating systems that these phones run on are different and they offer very different experiences. The S3 runs on Android while the Z10 runs on BlackBerry 10. Power phone users will find the S3 offers a better experience with the easy navigation that comes with the Android interface which has been incorporated with the TouchWiz UX. The Android experience is also more customisable than any other operating system on the market.
Of course, this does not mean that you should not give the Z10 a chance. The BB10 platform does offer an emphasis on the visual presentation of many effects. You may have to take some time to get used to the rather unique way of navigating this system.
When you delve deeper into the platforms you will find that the Android platform is more mature. The core organisation apps launch quickly and you can get all the information you need form the homepage. This is not something on offer with BB10 as you get the bare essentials on the homepage.
The usability of the keyboard is very important when you look at these phones. The keyboard on both phones is on screen which is a novelty when you are looking at a BlackBerry. The keyboards do look similar, but many users find that input with the Z10 is actually easier. However, the larger screen on the S3 does affect landscape typing.
The Processor and Memory
When you look at hardware it is best to compare phones that run on the same operating system. If you dont then you not completing the same tasks and will get misleading data. Of course, you can always compare the hardware on paper and see which phone should work better. Another surprise that comes with these phones is that they are actually running the exact same chip set. This means that on paper they offer identical performance.
The minimum amount of internal memory that you can get with these two phones is 16GB. Neither phone has the advantage in the memory CatID because they both offer expandable memory through a microSD card.
The Internet and Connectivity
The phones offer the same level of connectivity when you consider the internet. This means that browsing speeds will be the same with both devices. Both of these phones offer instant page rending when you browse the internet and easy navigation. Both phones also have Adobe Flash support which means that they generally offer the same experience and you cant really go wrong with them.
The Camera
The outdoor pictures that you can take with these phones are both more than adequate. However, when you really look at the pictures you will see that the S3 does offer a sharper picture and more vibrant colours. The Z10 seems to offer slightly duller tones and the sharp details are missing.
When you look at the indoor images the Z10 actually offers the better pictures. Both phones offer an LED flash, but the one on the Z10 does seem to work better. The pictures taken by the Z10 are brighter in poor lighting.
Sam Jones’s sister wasn’t sure why her phone deal gave her lots of free text messages. He was able to show her how the different deals worked by comparing them side by side on sites like uSwitch.
