Praia da Rocha is one of the liveliest towns on Portugal’s sparkling Algarve coastline. History and culture may be close by, but the town is focused on just two things: the beach, and having fun!

It’s perfect for kids and young families looking for a relaxing summer break. In fact, there’s so much to do here, you might need more than a single trip! Travel insuranceis always a must when you holiday with your family, so get yourself coveredand get ready to enjoy all Praia da Rocha has to offer.

Are you ready for fun? Let’s go!

The Beach

Praia da Rocha is built alongside a world-class beach, which stretches along the entire length of the town. There’s a more than one-kilometre long promenade for easy access, and beyond it you’ll find small coves and quieter beaches nestled among the sandstone cliffs.

At the eastern end of the beach sits the old Santa Catarina fort, and there’s a beautiful viewpoint to the west, along with two smaller beaches further up the coast. All are blessed with warm, expansive sands and cool, clear water. Banana boat rides, jet skis and children’s inflatables are all available to hire from the eastern end, and the whole coastline is well-supervised all summer, meaning your little ones will be safe to splash and play as much as they like.

Slide & Splash Water Park

One of the biggest and best waterparks in the country, the seven-hectare Slide & Splash has a lot on offer, from rides to shows and even a fish spa – so adults can enjoy getting pampered while kids have fun in the sun.

There’s an impressive array of rides here, including foam slides, a tunnel, a kids’ area and waterpark classics like the vertical thrill-ride of the Kamikaze and the enclosed Black Hole. The real attraction, though, is the range of shows on offer, from parrots and macaws, to reptiles and the high-speed aerial acrobatics of falconry.

Santa Banarda Pirate Ship

Finally, Praia da Rocha highlights Portugal’s connections to the Golden Age of Piracy in a cruise ship with a twist. The Santa Banarda is the perfect mix of sightseeing and fun, offering a variety of boat trips around the area. Each journey has a twist – some explore ocean caves, while others take visitors ashore for barbecues on isolated islands. Even the safety talk is entertaining!

The Santa Banarda sets sail from Portimao Harbour, just up the coastline from Praia, and has a well-stocked bar serving soft and alcoholic drinks and snacks, as well as a souvenir shop with shirts and pirate hats.
