Many homeowners opt for electric fireplaces because they desire the charm of a fireplace but have insufficient time to maintain a conventional fireplace. A major point to keep in mind is that electric fireplaces require no venting and their exteriors do not get too hot to the touch. Thus, if you have children and/or pets, get an electric variety. If you do not think that it will resemble a conventional hearth, you can burn logs but make sure that you get the right logs.

When selecting an electric fireplace, many homeowners evaluate the way it blends in with their overall interior home decor instead of how efficiently it will heat the room. If you want a heart that will look like part of the room, ensure that you buy one that matches the decor of the room where it will be located. Size is another factor to take into account. The last thing you need is for the inglenook that you choose to bee too small or too large for the room. For instance, if the ceiling high is below 8 feet, you must make sure that the mantle of your hearth does not exceed 40 inches. Any larger than that and the fireplace will look too big for the room. If the room is very spacious, you will need to be sure that the height of the mantle is at a level that can be clearly seen from any corner of the room.

After deciding on the best size and match with your existing decor, you must determine exactly how much you can afford. In general, you can purchase a decent fireplace for about $800. If money is no obstacle, many electric models are available that cost over $2,000. When visiting the stores or searching online, yet being unable to find a unit that suits you needs, you may always order a customized model that is perfect for the room.

It is better to buy electric fireplaces from a brick-and-mortar store, as the ones available online only show you pictures and description but may fall short in quality. As they cost hundreds of dollars, you will want to ensure that you get your money’s worth. When you order online, the unit that is delivered may not even match the image you originally saw on the website. Whether you order from an offline or online vendor, always inspect your new fireplace the moment it arrives and report any defects to the manufacturer immediately.
