Bath is one of the best places to visit in the United Kingdom and is little more than an hour and a half away from London. Bath is located in south west England and there are various things to see and do that should keep even the most inquisitive tourist extremely happy. For those looking to take the train from London to Bath the journey takes approximately 90 minutes from London Paddington station or London Waterloo station to Bath Spa. Once a refreshed traveller has arrived in Bath there are many things to do and this article introduces probably the most popular experience.

Bath Spas

Bath is probably best known for its ancient and modern spas. This is where a tourist is going to find Britain’s natural thermal waters and these go back in history to ancient Roman times, over 2,000 years ago. There is the opportunity to purchase a day ticket for approximately £60, although prices vary from day to day and season to season. With this ticket there is the chance to enjoy the Roman Baths, a 2 hour spa session, as well as Champagne afternoon tea or a three course lunch in the Pump room.

The Roman Baths are located in a historic temple, which is a wonderful sight to behold in itself. However, this is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the naturally hot and thermal waters that cannot be found anywhere else in the country. The Pump Room restaurant has now become equally as famous as the thermal waters and there are a number of options to choose from here. The three course lunch, which includes starter, main course and dessert, is served between 12 noon and 2.30pm.

However, if afternoon tea is more suitable then this is served between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. Tea includes smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, as well as scones with clotted cream and fruit preserves. As if that wasn’t enough, afternoon tea can all be washed down with a refreshing glass of Champagne. There is also the option to simply enjoy the wonderful pastries and desserts with a lovely cup of tea or coffee.

The Thermae Bath Spa certainly rounds off a superb day, which allows visitors to enjoy a two hour stay in the natural thermal waters. This experience also includes an open-roof pool, aroma steam rooms, as well as an indoor bath. For those visiting for the day via a Spa package it is important to know that although all the above is included, the hire or robes, slippers and towels is not and therefore must be hired separately.

The Thermae Bath Spa can be enjoyed throughout the day, as it is open from 9am until 9.30pm, although the latest entry to the spa must be by 7.30pm. The only time an advance booking can be taken is if a visitor has booked additional treatments or if they belong to a group of eight or more people. This is simply a wonderful day away and as mentioned a train from London to Bath can have you at your destination within 90 minutes.

Ana Aleksejeva has travelled extensively around Europe, but still rates her visit to the Bath spas as one of her most enjoyable experiences. She has chronicled many of her journeys in her travel articles, which are proving to be extremely popular. In fact, she is likely to visit far more often as it is so easy to get a train from London to Bath.
