Milano Centrale is the second largest train station in Italy. The station boasts a total of 24 tracks, which sees over 500 trains using them. There are well over 300,000 passengers who use the station on a daily basis, and therefore in excess of 100 million passengers on an annual basis. The station serves both regional and national lines, which allows commuters to travel the length and breadth of Italy. However, trains also travel to a multitude of international destinations on a daily basis as well. This article introduces some of the more popular international destinations that passengers can travel to on a daily basis.
Paris
Paris is often viewed as the romantic capital of the world and has so much to offer star-crossed lovers the world over. The journey takes approximately 7.5 hours and is typically completed on the high speed international TGV train. There is also the option of taking a slower overnight train, which may seem like the perfect way to start a romantic excursion. Paris has many sights and tourist attractions, but always seems to come alive at night with its variety of bars, nightclubs, restaurants and theatres.
Barcelona
Barcelona is fast becoming the go to place in Spain and this is especially true for those celebrating stag and hen weekends. Barcelona is known to be a lively city, with lots to do during the day and the night. The journey from Milano Centrale can take anywhere from 7.5 hours to 12 hours, depending on the type of transportation taken. The shorter duration time typically involves an additional connection by ferry from the south of France to the north-east coast of Spain. However, the longer train journey can be equally as satisfying and comfortable.
Munich
Munich is yet another city that has so much going for it, but is probably best known for its October beer festival. Literally hundreds of thousands of revellers swarm into Munich on an annual basis to partake in what has become the world’s biggest beer festival. The train journey is yet again going to be 7 plus hours, although there is also the option to take a slower overnight train as well. For those looking to speed up the journey a little there is the option to take a faster train connection from Verona.
Zurich
Zurich is known to be one of the most extravagant and beautiful cities to visit anywhere in the world. This is a city that offers a little something for everyone, irrespective of their reasons for wanting a break or short holiday. The journey is the shortest of all the above international destinations and should take a little under four hours. Therefore, there is really no need to worry about an overnight train journey, as passengers can arrive at their destination in a few, short hours.
Let’s not forget that Milan, and Italy in general, also happens to be a wonderful holiday destination and there is plenty to see and do here. There is the opportunity to travel around the country from this train station, and many others, in order to get a taste of what this lovely Italian city has to offer.
