There are so many brand names on the mobile phone market, that choosing between them can be tough. But buying a big brand name means that you get the security of a great warranty, and the assurance that you’re getting a great device. So just which brand should you choose? Today we’re talking about some of the biggest brands on the mobile market, as well as some of their bestselling devices. Apple and Their iPhones…
By far the biggest selling brand on the market is Apple. Their iPhone series is the bestselling range of phones in the world. iPhones are fast, sleek and powerful. The biggest advantage to buying an iPhone is that they are just so intuitive and easy to use. There’s no learning curve, making the iPhone a great choice for the first time smart phone user. However, iPhones are expensive, and you are going to be paying a lot for that Apple logo. You can get a similarly featured Android phone for a lot less money than you can get an iPhone. The top of the range iPhone right now is the iPhone 5, which has a bigger screen and more powerful processor than any other model. However, the slightly older iPhone 4S is also available, and other than the screen and processor is identical to the iPhone 5. If you’re looking for a decent mid-market phone, then you can get a great deal on the iPhone 4 with most mobile operators.
Motorola: Not So Cutting Edge…
Motorola used to be a huge player in the mobile market, and their flip phones revolutionised the market. However, they haven’t been doing to well recently, and their latest releases haven’t made much impact on the market. The Razr i is a decent high end phone though, with good specs, and you can get a good deal on this model with most operators. It’s probably one of the cheapest higher end phones that you’re going to see on the market. And the ATRIX is one of the best budget smart phones around, with good processing power, a nice screen and great internal memory for just around a hundred pounds. You don’t get much choice when it comes to Motorola phones these days, but when you find a model you can bet that you’re going to pay a fair, low price for something that has more features than you’d expect.
Samsung and the Galaxys…
Samsung has been going from strength to strength, and are renowned for producing some of the best phones on the market. Their Galaxy S III was generally considered to be the best phone of 2012, and is still a fantastic device though it’s been eclipsed by a newer model. The Samsung Galaxy S 4 is widely expected to be the best phone of 2013, with its huge smart screen, octo core processing power and slew of special features. And then there’s the Phablet market. Samsung have been pioneers in making the huge screen tablet/phone hybrid with their Galaxy Tab series rocking the market. They do tend to be better at higher end phones, their mid-market and budget phones aren’t much to write home about. But if you’re looking for the best of the best, then it’s probably going to be a Samsung.
Nokia and Windows…
Nokia are a huge name in the mobile market, and are best known for their incredible build quality, and excellent screens and cameras. Of late, Nokia have teamed up with Microsoft to produce a lot of Windows phone models, most notably the Lumia series. Not all Nokia phones are Windows models, but the good ones are. Windows phones used to be shunned by most users, due to the operating system being clunky and difficult to use. But thanks to cooperation with Nokia, and a new Nokia designed user interface, Windows 8 is rapidly growing in popularity, particularly on the business market. The top end Nokia Lumia is the 920, and that’s going to set you back a fair amount of cash. But the Lumia 620 has a lot of the same features as the 920, including the same screen and user interface, and comes in at a much more reasonable price.
HTC Desires and Ones…
HTC have grown a lot over the last few years, and produce some great devices. They’re probably best at making high end business phones as well as mid market devices. They do make a mix of Android and Windows models, so you’ll get a choice of operating system. The HTC Desire series is the more affordable HTC option, a decent range of mid-market devices that have nice build quality. The HTC One series is the more high-end range, and The One is set to become one of the top selling high end phones of this year. In general, HTC’s Android phones are better options than their Windows devices.
Huawei and Budget Phones…
Huawei is a newcomer to the UK market, but they’ve made quite a splash. In Europe, Huawei are concentrating their efforts on making good quality budget smart phones, and that’s exactly what they do. If you’re looking for a phone at a budget price, but one that doesn’t sacrifice too many features, then Huawei are going to be the brand for you. Their budget models tend to have far bigger screens than you generally see on budget smart phones, as well as a few features that you’d expect from a mid-market model, like good battery life and fair processing power. They also make both Windows and Android phones, though they’re better known for Android models. Their newest offering is the Huawei Ascend W1, which is a Windows phone that retails for around a hundred pounds. For bargains, it’s pretty hard to beat Huawei, though you won’t always get the best build quality or internal memory specs, but that is expected on a budget smart phone.
