Holidaymakers searching for the ideal golfing destination know this task requires a very specific mix of ingredients. The most important is obviously the courses and resorts; however, you’ve also got to make sure you’ve got the right kind of weather (rain would ruin your trip) and activities to do on the rare occasions when you’re not out hitting the greens.
If you’re someone who holidays to golf (as opposed to those who play a game or two while away), consider heading to a well-known golfing destination for your next trip abroad.
The Algarve
It’s no secret that the Algarve is a top pick for golf enthusiasts – and it’s not hard to see why. With ideal temperatures, lovely local towns and some of the best resorts and courses in all of Europe, this is a perfect spot for anyone interested in the sport.
The best place within the best region to visit if you have a love for the game is a harbour town turned comprehensive golf complex called Vilamoura. It’s got the best courses in and around it, including names such as San Lorenzo, Oceanico Old, Quinta Do Lago, Vale Do Lobo and Victoria. If you’re looking to go further afield, Penina and Monte Rei are easily accessible.
Northern France
The Northern region of France has something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a quiet, low key time to relax or the excitement of nightlife and beaches, you’ll find your dream town along this coastline. Top that off with world class courses such as Arras, Hardelot, Saint Omer and Le Touqet, and you’ve got yourself a well-rounded holiday.
Top Tip: The Eurotunnel runs through this region. Travelling by car will enable you to cut down on travel costs, while also allowing you to bring significantly more gear with you than you could if you were flying.
Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol is known as one of the loveliest golfing destinations in Europe, complete with a high selection of courses set against a majestic mountain backdrop, breathtaking coastlines and picturesque landscapes. With a perfect climate, delectable restaurants and a plethora of beaches and marinas, the area seemingly has it all.
The Malaga province is particularly popular, as are courses in the Marbella area (Calanova and Santa Clara come to mind). Alternatively, you can head to a high class resort such as La Finca Coresin, La Cala or Atalaya Park.
No matter which of these golfing destinations you choose, you can’t go wrong: they’ve got everything a holidaymaker requires. With gorgeous climates, astounding natural beauty, extra activities that range from exciting to relaxing (depending on your mood) and, most importantly, some of the top courses in the world, you don’t have to stress out about where you’re going next. All you need to do is break out your clubs and yell ‘Fore!’ – you’re about to partake in the golf getaway of a lifetime.
