Planning a golf holiday that suits everyone is right up there with quantum physics – it seems nearly impossible to figure out unless you’re a genius. Fortunately, there’s a way to significantly reduce this stress. Read on for some top tips on how to organise the greatest golf getaway you and your friends have ever experienced.
The Plan
When people are unsure of what’s going on, they can get ratty. That’s why preparation and organisation are two of the most important aspects of any trip. Start off by beginning to plan as early as you possibly can, preferably by getting the group together and agreeing upon a budget, dates and who’s coming along. That way everyone will be in agreement, and when you do go to book your break you’ll be more likely to get the tee times and accommodation you want at a price you’re happy with.
It’s also a good idea to get each would-be participant to put down a deposit as soon as possible. Not only will that significantly reduce the chance they will back out at the last minute, it will ensure everyone is paying their fair share – and you won’t have to worry about booking delays because someone hasn’t paid up yet.
The Golf
With all that planning ahead, you should be able to get the courses and tee times that you want. However, it’s important to be on the same page with the rest of your group about how much golf everyone actually wants to play. That way, no one will feel disappointed they’re not getting enough time on the green (or feel fatigued from too much putting).
It’s also important to know how your companions want to play. Do they have any courses that they’ve been dying to get out on? Are they looking for variety or is one place to putt enough? Does the resort need to have a facility on site?
If opinions differ, sometimes it’s helpful to split up into smaller groups as a compromise, so that everyone can get what they want out of their golf holiday.
The Resort
•Hotels – an all-inclusive resort with lots of amenities can be a great option if you’re looking for an easy-to-navigate golf holiday. And don’t forget to check to see your hotel offers a group discount!
•Apartments – If you’re on a budget, an apartment can be ideal for a group. You’ll often have a lot more space and private areas where you can spend time together.
The Extra Curriculars
If your group wants to do more than just hit on the green on your golf holiday (and especially if there are non-golfers tagging along), it’s important to make sure you base yourself somewhere that has other activities to do. Check with your group to confirm whether you’re looking to have quiet evenings in or spend time out enjoying the nightlife – that could change where you choose to stay.
With these tips in mind, it should be easy to organise and enjoy a group golf holiday!
