Owner Driver Jobs Delivered by Drones: Into the Future

2 Min Read

To many, drones may seem like something out of science fiction. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In our modern society, they are becoming more and more prevalent – so much so that now even the general population can purchase and operate them.

They aren’t only being used for fun flying in spare time, though. There have already been instances of putting these robots to work. Read on to find out what exactly a drone is and how Starship Technologies has turned science fiction into reality by giving these futuristic creatures their own personal owner driver courier jobs.

The Definition of a Drone

Simply put, a drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (also known as an UAV), which is an aircraft with no human pilot aboard. They can be controlled either autonomously by on-board computers or by a ground-based human operator. There are many different types, each with different fascinating and diverse purposes such as surveillance, aerial photography, racing and, a personal favourite, deliveries.

Delivery drones are UAVs which are specifically utilised to transport food, packages or other goods – essentially, they are robots given their own little owner driver courier jobs to complete.

Starship Technologies, a company dedicated to drone development, has taken delivery UAVs to the next level. Their Milton Keynes branch is now offering a public drone delivery service. Although it sounds quite futuristic, the service itself is simple to use.

First, customers must download the app (simply called Starship and available for both Android and iOS) and sign up for this new service. Then, for a subscription of £7.99 per month, a Starship drone will deliver their parcels whenever and wherever suits the customer best.

A potential downside is that this innovative service is so far only available to local residents – so if you’re not from the Milton Keynes area, you won’t be able to get in on this new delivery method.

How to Use the App

Making use of the app is easy. Here’s how it works.

•When ordering a package, don’t use your own address – instead, put down the location of your local Starship depot.
•When the parcel arrives there, you will receive a text or email notification.
•You can then choose a place, time and date to pick up your parcel.
•A drone will then deliver their package according to the information you’ve provided.

That means no more missing parcels because you’re at work or busy, no more annoying pickups at post offices, and no more rescheduling and rearranging your life just so you can get your package – you can get your deliveries when and where you want them.

Drones are slowly integrating their way into our everyday lives by completing their own personal owner driver courier jobs like these. Keep checking your local courier industry news source for more information – the future really is now and you don’t want to miss it.
