The MGM Grand is a hotel and casino located at the Vegas Strip, in Paradise Nevada. It is with out a doubt the very largest hotel in the United States, and has a whopping 5,044 guest rooms. It is also the third largest hotel in the world in rooms, and the second largest resort complex in the United States. When it opened back in 1993, the MGM was the largest hotel complex on earth.

Operated by MGM Resorts, the main structure is 293 feet in height. The mass of the property has five out door pools, rivers, and water falls that cover more than six acres of land. The resort has a 380,000 square foot convention center. The resort also has the grand garden arena as well as the MGM grand spa. The resort has many shops, night clubs, food courts and eateries throughout, as well as the largest casino located in Clark County Nevada. The casino offers 171,500 square feet of gaming space.
The location is positioned at the Tropicana, Vegas Blvd intersection. People on foot are not permitted to cross the road up at street level. As an alternative the MGM Grand has those over head pedestrian bridges that connect it to it’s neighboring structures and casinos. The Marina Hotel and Casino at 3805 Vegas Blvd, was a 714 guest room hotel and casino. Back in 1989, Kirk Kerkorian bought out the Marina, and then behind the Marina he also did buy out the San Remo hotel location. This enabled him to obtain the land needed to create the MGM Grand.
A mono rail was built to tie the MGM to Bally’s. The opening party for the mono rail was clad with show girls and guys from Bally’s and they worked as helpers guiding groups to the mono rail. Wizard of Oz cast members did meet and greet with the groups on the MGM side of the rail. The track was then improved to become the southern most part of the Vegas Mono Rail system.

Back in 2000, there was an effort to appeal to the grown ups that visit Vegas. Therefore the hotel decided to embark on a major renovation. These days the theme is now are deco of Hollywood, and the MGM bills itself as it’s own city of entertainment. Lately the resort has decided on using the phrase Maximum Vegas, and it is referring to it’s enormous and vast array of activities it can offer to it’s customers.
At April of 2000, MGM opened an all new satellite registration center for hotel check ins to be done while the customer was still at Mc Carran airport. This was the first center of such type opened up at any hotel in the USA. However it does appear as though the center had closed down late 2013.
