Menorca at Night: Swanky Bars, Live Music and Cool Clubs

3 Min Read

Menorca is best known for beautiful beaches, superb natural surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere. You’ll be relieved to know that it is not as wild once the sun goes down as neighbouring islands Majorca and Ibiza, but it also has a fantastic nightlife, with something to do no matter what mood you are in.

Cool local bars, live music and nightclubs staying open till the early hours can be found in various places all over the island. Many of these will be easily reachable from your Menorca villa, but not so close that you will be kept awake at night. In addition to the great drinking establishments, there are also many great restaurants and other areas to spend your evening if you wish.

For those seeking a fun evening of music, drinks and a friendly atmosphere, here is what you need to know.

Jazz

One type of music which has found a home in Menorca is jazz. San Clemente Jazz Club is the oldest venue on the island and has excellent live shows from both professionals and semi-professionals at night.

Be sure to head down to Akelarre Jazz Club on Thursday evenings, where there are delicious cocktails and live jazz and blues; this creates a fun and cool atmosphere that you will struggle to find elsewhere. For those with a Menorca villa near Ciutadella, Sa Clau Jazz Club is a unique experience as it is situated in a natural cave.

During spring, there is an annual jazz festival which is not to be missed thanks to a brilliant atmosphere and the top-notch standard of live music on show.

Salsa

Salsa is also popular here with many sizzling nightclubs seeing the locals and tourists dance until the early hours.

Assukar in Mahón is one of the best clubs, whilst Tse Tse in Mahón Harbour is popular with the locals. Asere in Cuitadella is another swanky venue with fiery and fun dancing which goes on till late into the evening.

Best Venues

Menorca has a handful of spectacular live venues which attract many talented artists across a variety of music genres; this means that all tastes will be catered for. A standout venue and bar is Cova d’en Xoroi, which is built into a network of caves and has huge outdoor terraces looking out over the Mediterranean Sea. It can be visited during the day, but transforms into a swanky nightclub in the evening with a great atmosphere and unique live gigs.

Classical music fans will also be kept happy on the island, with the ancient cloisters of Claustre de Seminari in Cuitadella providing the perfect setting and ambience for the numerous concerts that are put on throughout the year. The capital city of Mahón also has classical and contemporary concerts at Sa Terrassa es Claustre.

Night owls are well catered for here with dozens of different options that will be just a stone’s throw from your Menorca villa. Whether you are looking for a quiet drink in a trendy local bar, a classical music concert or to dance the night away in a salsa club, you will find it all on the island.
