In the Bible, the word Anointing oil is written twenty times. Both Old and New Testaments mention Anointing Oil, although it is more often mentioned in the Old Testament. The Bible clearly gives the recipe for Holy Anointing Oil and it was used for high priests and His descendants and tabernacle and embellishments to mark it as holy and set it aside for God. While there’s not even attempt to state these ingredients are powerful, they’re healing oils. If you read the New Testament, you can see the disciples heal those who’re sick using Anointing Oil.

So, can Christians use Anointing Oil today? Obviously, they could, as Scripture doesn’t say otherwise! Obviously, it is a symbol of Holy Spirit and can definitely be used for praying. Though there are different versions of how Anointing Oil is done, the best oil is the one done back in Israel. It retains the natural recipe and for most part, the oils are unparalleled! After all, it is God’s chosen country. Anointing in Hebrew means to massage, or rub a person using oil.

In the ancient church, people were anointed, for healing purposes because healers were also priests or holy men or women. In some cultures, people went (and still do) to a Shaman or Medicine Man or Woman for healing on all levels not just for the body. When Jesus was teaching his disciples about healing, it was through energy and essential oils. However, it’s not used much currently.

Till the 20th century, healing wasn’t only physical. Only when modern medicine gained popularity, this trend was started. However, how many of us are actually healed by this method? Minimal right? Though important for a few situations, modern medicine doesn’t heal even physical problems! How can it deal with spiritual or emotional problems? And it certainly does not address the emotional and spiritual issues of dis-ease.

In Mark, Jesus tells his disciples that anointing them with oils will heal them. He also adds that physical and spiritual healing are associated with each other and it calls for the acceptance of the same from the individuals who are looking for healing. He says, healing starts from within and one should be in harmony with God and believe He is the ONLY one who can heal. To sum up, Anointing oil was used to heal an individual physically, spiritually and emotionally.
