No Comments 3 Min Read

The French resort of Val Thorens is well known for its excellent snow, providing the perfect conditions for keen skiers. However, if you are travelling with your whole family, it is important to know how to make the most of this fantastic location.

Where should you stay, and how can you keep the kids entertained both on and off the slopes?

Where to Stay?

For your visit to the resort, I would recommend booking a cosy catered chalet, Val Thorens has plenty of lovely accommodation on offer, but there is nothing quite like snuggling up with your family in front of a roaring fire in your own private catered chalet. Val Thorens is the highest resort in the whole of Europe, so a warm and homely base is a necessity for a holiday packed with family fun.

A private home-from-home also gives you the freedom and space to spend quality family time together in the evenings, playing board games, chatting and enjoying delicious meals.

Many of our properties here include swimming pool access within the building complex so if there’s poor weather you can send the kids for a swim to keep them occupied.

Snow Much Fun!

Easily accessible from your catered chalet, Val Thorens’ Fun Slope and Snowpark are the perfect places to take kids obsessed with skiing and snowboarding. Not only do these locations offer classes for those wanting to improve their skills on the slopes, they also provide a safe space for all levels of skiers to have fun in the snow.

The Fun Slope, dotted with obstacles such as snow tunnels and bridges, is great for anyone who wants to try out a uniquely entertaining course and test their skills in new and unusual ways. More experienced skiers and snowboarders, or those looking for some inspiration, can head to the freestyle snowpark to witness some seriously impressive moves.

Activities for Adrenaline Junkies

I’m sure that your children are keen skiers, but a skiing holiday can be tiring and there comes a time in every trip when the kids just want to do something different.Though it’s all very well to spend the evenings hanging out in your catered chalet, Val Thorens has lots to offer energetic children during the day. Why not get their adrenaline pumping with Ice Karting, a fast-paced, competitive activity that you can join in with?

The incredible La Trolienne zip wire is another activity that’s sure to get your heart pumping. The highest zip wire in the world, this 1.3-kilometre line lasts a breathtaking two minutes and is a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.

If heights are your thing, organise a family activity that you’ll all remember forever and book a hot air balloon ride. The beauty of this region is only increased when you view it from the skies! Though a more peaceful experience than the zip wire, a hot air balloon trip over snow-topped forests is no less awe-inspiring.

Treasure Hunt in the Snow!

Get your feet back on the ground (and keep them out of skis!) with a fun geocaching adventure. As a Geocacher, you are given a set of coordinates and then set off on a huge treasure hunt in the snow, searching for the hidden cache. This is a great family activity that gets everyone outside and enjoying the picturesque surroundings whilst giving you all a rest from the slopes.

I hope these tips on travelling to Val Thorens as a family have given you some fantastic ideas on how to make your next holiday one that everyone will enjoy!
