Indulge Your Passion for Golf on Tenerife’s Greens and Fairways

3 Min Read

While many people want nothing more than to flop on the beach when they’re in Tenerife, holidays for golf lovers are a whole new level of intense! Tenerife’s spring-like temperatures, guaranteed sunshine and stunning scenery are ideal for perfecting one’s putt, which is why it’s not surprising that the island is home to some of Europe’s most beautiful golf courses.

Tenerife’s lined with some fantastic courses, many of which are linked to elegant and very luxurious hotels. So while your friends and/or family work on their tans, you can spend your precious holiday time working on your swing.

Here are my recommendations for some of the best golf courses on the island.

Golf Costa Adeje

Costa Adeje, a former host of the European LPGA Tour, is a challenging 18-hole course with a demanding par of 72. There’s plenty here to test the advanced golfer, but don’t be put off if your game is not yet up to par. This is also the perfect spot for beginners and intermediates to improve.

The course, which was designed by the Spainard Pepe Gancedo, winds its way along the coastline, boasting stunning ocean views against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and pristine lakes. The course has an enjoyably varied terrain at its disposal, which makes the task of getting anywhere near par quite difficult (but fun!).

Where to Stay

Indulge in a little luxury in the exclusive accommodation at the Royal Garden Villas. After a day on the greens, you can relax in your villa’s own private pool or at the bar, or you could visit the excellent spa to work out your tired muscles. In the evening, you can enjoy some fine dining at the Royal Garden’s gourmet restaurant.

Dave Thomas Golf Club

Known as the ‘Augusta of Europe’, this 18-hole, par 72 course was designed by the award-winning golfer Dave Thomas. The course, which is part of The Ritz-Carlton, Abama, offers golfers the chance to pit their skills against its challenging water hazards, varied terrain and tricky fairways.

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful courses on the island; the space is lined with palm trees and offers stunning views out over the Atlantic.

As an added bonus, you can relax in the elegant clubhouse and enjoy Michelin-starred food at its Kabuki restaurant once you’ve finished your round.

Where to Stay

In Tenerife, holidays in The Ritz-Carlton, Abama are perfect if you’re looking for a tranquil and luxurious getaway. This hotel has a section of adult-only villas, all of which have their own private pool and garden. To ensure complete relaxation, a personal villa attendant will be on hand throughout your holiday to ensure you have everything you need.

Buenavista Golf

The course at the Buenavista was designed by the Spanish golfing legend Seve Ballesteros, and is as challenging and exhilarating as it is dramatic and beautiful.

Built along the cliffs around the Melia Haceinda del Conde Hotel, it sweeps along the undulating terrain in a series of fantastic fairways. With 18-holes and a demanding 72-par, it is perfect for beginners and experienced golfers alike.

The clubhouse is also a treat, as it looks out over the ocean from its elevated position.

Where to Stay

The Melia Hacienda del Conde is the perfect location for Tenerife holidays – it’s known for its grown-up, adult-only elegance and secluded charm. Set on the quiet north-west coast, the hotel has an excellent fine-dining restaurant and, most importantly, a shuttle to the golf course.

While are many ways to enjoy Tenerife, holidays among its pristine greens and fairways are simply unforgettable. If you are a golfer, you’ll find everything you’re looking for – and more. So why not come and enjoy one of the world’s best games in one of its most beautiful locations?
