LAS COLORADAS is a small town situated inside the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The town is well known for its pink lakes. These lakes were built by the salt factory inside the town and they are made use of for salt production. The bright pink colour is brought on by microorganisms in the water, such as plankton and algae, which thrive in salty circumstances.
The way to get there
The airport nearest for the pink lakes is in Cancun. Inexpensive flights could be booked from several North American and European destinations. Swimming inside the pink lakes is no longer permitted. However, on your approach to Las Coloradas you are going to pass an entire coast of lovely blue beaches. You’ll want to quit for any swim there as an alternative.
Las Coloradas is very modest and so there is no accommodation in the town. Your best bet is to remain in Rio Lagartos, which is the closest significant city. It can be about 30 minutes away from Las Coloradas.
When driving close to the pink lakes, be careful with the salt delivery trucks and trailers. Some are very substantial and may take up the whole road.
