Enjoy Family Friendly Activities in Beautiful Amsterdam

2 Min Read

Amsterdam is a top holiday destination whether you’re travelling with friends, family or just going it alone. The city is full of exciting attractions, wonderful restaurants and hidden gems, so it should definitely be on everyone’s travel bucket list – including those with families.

If you’re taking the little ones to the Netherlands and want to make it a holiday they’ll remember forever, take a look at these fantastic day trip recommendations.

Ontdekhoek Discovery Centre

Perfect for young children, Ontdekhoek offers educational activities in a laid-back environment. Learn how to make delicious chips, build electrical circuits, create soaps and get involved with a whole range of craft workshops. Some activities might get a little messy, but it’s definitely worth it if you want your kids to try something new – and perhaps discover hidden some talents!

Pannenkoekenboot

Fancy a canal cruise with a yummy twist? Pannenkoekenboot (the Pancake Boat) will be your ideal day out! Head out on a fabulous day cruise with the family, enjoy the surrounding landscape and indulge in unlimited pancakes. Be warned though, some children can get a little carried away with the tempting treats…

NEMO Science Centre

This is one of the top attractions for kids in the Netherlands, and if you pay it a visit you will not be surprised as to why it is so well loved. With five floors jam-packed with exciting things to do, you can easily spend the entire day exploring the centre.

Kids can get involved in demonstrations and workshops, watch films and theatre and enjoy all of the exhibitions – all of the senses are explored at NEMO Science Centre! If your children are really into it, they can even put on their own lab coat and join in with a few experiments. The centre also boasts a café, water playground and additional games outside.

The Anne Frank House

If you or the youngsters are history fanatics, this attraction is a must. Although Anne Frank’s story is a hard-hitting one, many children enjoy the experience and it’s a great way to introduce slightly older children to the history of the Second World War. The house gives visitors a detailed, immersive depiction of what life was like for those in hiding and there are snippets from the famous diary to be read.

How to Get There

To reach your destination, it is recommended that you fly into Schiphol Airport and then get a shuttle service to transfer your family to your chosen accommodation in Amsterdam. Airport transport is easy to organise prior to your holiday, and will make your journey much more straightforward once you land.

Top Tip: Find an Amsterdam airport transport operator that can provide special seats for children when you book in advance.
