Golf is a sport that is often combined with a sunny summer holiday, and luckily there are several destinations that offer great courses. When on a golf holiday in Menorca, the place to head to is the fabulous golf course just outside Son Parc. Play here and you can expect top quality conditions and the ideal climate for a wonderful game.
A Brief Intro
The island of Menorca has gained status as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It is therefore easy to understand why the golf course at Son Parc is a stunning verdant haven, not only attractive to golfers but to an array of resident birdlife too. Just beyond the third green a flock of peacocks have settled in and made this paradise their home.
Greens are well taken care of and the golf course owners are extremely environmentally aware. All of the greens are kept very lush by way of an irrigation system that uses both rainwater and water that has been recycled from a treatment plant close by.
The Course Specifics
A course designed by a golfer is bound to reap the benefits of inside knowledge and this course, having been designed by Dave Thomas – a professional golfer who is also an architect – certainly boasts an excellent well thought out design. Dave Thomas was also responsible for the creation of the San Roque on the Costa del Sol and the UK’s The Belfry.
There are several competitions held at Son Parc and anyone with a qualifying handicap is allowed to participate. It is always wise to be aware, however, that the wind in Menorca, known as the tramuntana, can be a bit of an issue and it can often take unsuspecting newcomers by surprise!
Beginner golfers are also well catered for at Son Parc golf course, so if you are on a golf holiday in Menorca but have only just taken up the game, you can always book into the golf academy. Half hour or one hour coaching sessions, focussing on technique improvement, can be booked. The putting green and driving range are the perfect places to put your newly acquired skills into practice.
For any families with children interested in golf, there are also lessons available for youngsters.
The Facilities
Not every golfer lover has the opportunity to travel with other keen golfers, and instead has to combine their golf holiday in Menorca with a family holiday. The good news is, though, that when the golfing fanatic in the family is out on the course, the rest of the gang can be relaxing in the Es Bruc Golf Bar-Restaurant, which has an extensive terrace with great views of the course. There are also tennis courts here, which you are free to use.
A golf holiday in Menorca is always going to be a hit with lovers of the sport, especially if they choose to enjoy a day or two playing at the delightful, and rather scenic, Golf Son Parc Menorca.
