From rectangular bricks to zigzag lined bricks, the art of brick making has come a long way from its humble beginnings while keeping the quality and strength that lasts for a long time that it is known for.

Block Paving has been first developed in the countries of Britain and Ireland. In its early years, the price of such blocks has been high, but due to the development of mass production, it has reduced to a considerably reasonable price; it still is continually developing. In spite of changes in the original design, it continues to prove its worth over the years that, and still remains as a formidable competition in comparison with tiles, fiber glass, granite, and steel.

There are two types of Brick Paving: The molded concrete block and the Kiln-Fired Clay Brick. The methods that are used in laying the Paved Bricks include the flexible paving and rigid paving. Flexible paving is the commonly used laying method where they place the Brick Paving on top of a layer of sand bed. Fine silica sand is then filled in between the joints of the bricks.

Rigid paving uses clay bricks laid out on top of a bed of mortar or concrete and has mortar joints. It is like paving on the wall and applied in on a horizontal plane such as a floor.

Maintenance may prove hard as it entails a lot of cleaning up and has special specifications. It can be cleaned regularly by sweeping, and if there is a presence of algal growth Jeyes Fluid can be used and then be cleaned afterward. Pressure washer is not advisable; only use when the surface is really dirty.

These Block Pavings should also be treated with weed killer twice a year. In addition to the Jeyes Fluid in the previous paragraph, if algal growth is evident, pluck them out and clean the blocks afterwards because it might cause accidents due to a slippery surface.

Block Pavings, aside from being durable and decorative, they also serve a lot of benefits. One of them is its flexibility because when the underlying soil moves, it moves with it. Second benefits is it practicality with benefits affecting long term costs, which is in relation to its durability and strength, it would take years of weight to out do such properly structured brick.

From the Greeks down to the modern world, the concrete block cement has proven its worth over the years. With the addition of Block Paving to its family, the possibilities have become endless and the legacy of its strength and durability lives on.
