31202La Gomera’s Superb Cecina Golf Course – A Golfer’s Paradise

No Comments 3 Min Read

If your idea of the perfect luxury holiday involves teeing off and enjoying a leisurely round of golf in a beautiful setting then you cannot go wrong with the stunning island of La Gomera. This is the hidden jewel of the Canary Islands; it does not attract the hoards of travellers that flock to Tenerife and Lanzarote, and yet it boasts spectacular scenery, classy accommodation and elegant bars and restaurants. This creates a peaceful at-mosphere that is perfect for those looking for a relaxing luxury golf break.

La Gomera boasts one of the best courses in the Canary Islands (an impressive feat!). Tecina Golf is found near the charming small town of Playa de Santiago on the south coast. Set high above the Lomada Tecina and the Atlantic Ocean, a round or two here will certainly satisfy golf lovers and it is one of the island’s major highlights.

Facts

The impressive 18-hole course covers approximately 55 hectares and almost 6.3 kilome-tres, including greens that descend over a whopping 175 metres. The course has been expertly designed by Donald Steel so that it can be played by all abilities thanks to the wide fairways and landing holes, but a few of the rolling greens present a great challenge for the more experienced players. It is also playable throughout the year thanks to the excellent design and construction.

What to Expect

The first hole tees off high at the top of the hill for amazing views, gradually taking you all the way down to the ocean. This is a lovely experience that showcases La Gomera’s spectacular natural beauty. As you descend with each hole you will see fruit trees, tropi-cal plants and more intriguing vegetation with the ocean visible at all times. The highlight is, arguably, the amazing tenth hole which features a ravine that divides the fairway – this creates a tricky challenge and it also makes the green look as if it’s floating in the air! Tecina has a chipping green and putting green if you want to get some practice in, but be sure to stop off at the inviting Club House after a round for a well-earned drink with mesmerising views over Tapahuga Beach.

Where to Stay

If you are on a golf break, you will certainly want to book yourself into Jardin Tecina. This lovely accommodation is attached to the course and offers a direct transfer service to the first tee from the hotel. In addition to easy access to Tecina each day, Jardin Tecina is situated within beautiful gardens above Playa de Santiago with incredible views out to sea.

The hotel itself has spacious, bright and well-equipped rooms with a mini-bar and free Wi-Fi. It is a great spot for relaxing with three outdoor pools and a wellness centre, but active types will be glad to hear that it also features tennis courts, a dive school and a gym. The hotel has a lively nightlife with dancing shows, music and other entertainment along with a choice of welcoming bars and restaurants onsite.

La Gomera is a brilliant place for a relaxing golf break thanks to this highly impressive course where you can enjoy a well-thought out 18 holes along with stunning natural sur-roundings and a peaceful atmosphere.
