A Skier’s Paradise

Is there a word for that sound your skis make as they glide over the snow? If there isn’t, then someone should invent one. It’s part of what draws us back to the slopes year after year – the sheer, sensual exhilaration of it all. And for the avid skier looking for a challenge, St. Anton is the perfect resort. Providing a high-spec range of luxurious catered chalets, St. Anton also packs a real punch when it comes to the slopes. So, here are my six top tips for how to make the most of this skiing Mecca.

1.Rendl Races

Skiers in St. Anton mean business. The north face of Valluga, for example, greets you with the thrilling prospect of drop-away gullies to the side. But if you’re after a more laidback vibe, then a morning’s skiing in Rendl is ideal. Afterwards, when your muscles are aching nicely and you’ve forgotten what it’s like to stand still, head to the Rendl Beach Bar for lunch. Set on an expansive terrace and serving local, sustaining dishes like burgers, this will set you up nicely for an afternoon on the mountain.

2.Go Off-Piste

For many seasoned skiers, the scale and quality of the off-piste possibilities are the real draw of St. Anton. With a guide, you can head out into mountains so titanic that you may feel like you’ve been transported to another, grander planet. Awe-inspiring vistas and tempting, pristine snow are enough to satisfy even the most thrill-seeking skier.

3.Skiing with the Stars

The Run of Fame is a brand-new, ambitious circuit spanning 85km and seven resorts. It’s almost sinful in its tantalising possibilities. By checking in on your progress with the Run of Fame app, you can earn a free gift and badge when you’ve completed this epic course. They’ve even built a special exhibition centre, the Hall of Fame, dedicated to pioneers of Arlberg skiing and the gang of celebrities who’ve dared to tackle the run.

4.Vertigo on Valluga

As if that’s not enough, a viewpoint from the top of Valluga lets you take in five, yes five, countries at once: Austria, Italy, Germany, Lichtenstein and Switzerland. One crucial thing to remember: make sure that you take a photo, so that you can share your top-of-the-world experience with your friends!

5.Hit the Dancefloor

The après-ski scene in St. Anton is verging on the mythical. Bars like Krazy Kanguruh have been serving up unique cocktails and pumping out cheesy tunes since the 1960s. They get going in the afternoon and finish up around 8pm, allowing you to head back to a delicious dinner at your catered chalet. St. Anton really is (almost) too good to believe!

6.How to Live the Dream

Although it might feel like it’s a million miles away, St. Anton is surprisingly easy to reach. Alongside a train station in the village itself, three airports are in comfortable driving distance. And in terms of accommodation, when it comes to catered chalets, St. Anton’s got it covered. With an impressive range of chalets that meet every group size and budget, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Let’s Go Snow!

When all’s said and done, St. Anton is the perfect resort for adrenaline-fuelled skiing shenanigans: luxurious catered chalets, world-class runs and action-packed après-ski adventures. I mean, what’s not to love about a beach bar on top of a mountain?
